FAQ and Online Policies
Registration/Payment
- Pre-registration and pre-payment for all courses is required, and can be done online or by
phone. Payment can be made by credit or debit card (MasterCard,
Visa, American Express, or Discover Card) online during the registration process, or by phone, prior to the
course date.
- Checks are accepted if received in our office one week in
advance for individuals or on the day of training for groups.
Returned checks are charged a service fee of $20.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule (refund policy)?
-
Our resources do not allow us to issue refunds.
However, we are happy to accommodate one transfer to another
class free of charge if the request is made at least 24 hours
prior to the start of class.
- If you do not show up for a class on
time, you
will need to enroll in a new class and payment will not be
transferred to that class. No-shows (more than 10
minutes late) and late transfers
cost Kansas City First Aid time and money. Please help us by
planning in advance.
- A cancellation fee of $45 will be charged for
all group courses cancelled within 24 hours of the class start
time.
What if I have a cold or other health
concerns?
- Training should be postponed if you have a
cold or other health concerns. A separate manikin may be
requested three days prior to the start of class and every
effort will be made to accommodate the request.
What should I wear?
- Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for practice sessions. We
use hi-tech Actar Defib CPR manikins and do tabletop manikin practice, so
there will be no getting down on the floor to practice as in years past.
Course materials
- Handouts and other materials you will need are furnished and are
included in the class fee. You may want to bring paper and a
pen to take notes.
- Textbooks are not included in all courses.
If you want to purchase a textbook you may do so at your course.
If you are taking a renewal course, bring the (current) textbook
from your previous course.
How do I get to my training?
-
Kansas City First Aid teaches courses at various locations within the
Kansas City area. You will be advised of the location of your
course during the
registration process.
Please click
here for driving directions.
Can I bring my child, pet, friend, etc. to class?
-
Please do
not bring children, friends, or other guests. Only registered
participants may attend the class. Please do not bring your
pets to Pet First Aid (or any other class). Classes are not designed
to accommodate pets.
Will someone come to our facility and teach a
CPR, First Aid, or AED course?
- Yes, if you have six or more participants,
our instructor will come to your location and teach any American
Heart Association course. We have the latest equipment and
do tabletop CPR - so no more getting down on the ground to
practice! There are no additional fees involved for this
option.
- If you have fewer than six, we recommend
attending one of our scheduled courses.
Will I receive certification?
- Upon successful course completion,
American Heart Association, or American Safety & Health
Institute certification cards valid for
2-years will be distributed at your course.
What are the
recommended renewal dates for course completion cards?
- Two-year renewal dates must be
designated on all course completion cards, with the exception of
Bloodborne Pathogens - which is a one year certification. Employers may
determine if their employees need more frequent training. However, all course
completion cards are valid for 2 years.
The issue date will be the month, day, and year. The renewal
date will be the renewal month and year.
If your card expires, is there a grace period?
- The American Heart Association does not
give grace periods. Course completion cards are invalid after the expiration date
indicated on the card.
Can I take a Healthcare Provider CPR Renewal
Course online?
-
Yes, the American Heart Association has launched
its e-Learning program for experienced healthcare professionals. The online
BLS Renewal Course provides a review for healthcare professionals
who have prior CPR training. This program recognizes that
healthcare professionals have knowledge and skills acquired from
prior CPR training and years of patient care. Must hold a
valid course completion card - not expired.
-
The eLearning course is completed in two steps; an
online classroom session you complete at your own pace from any
computer with internet access, and a 30 minute classroom skills
validation session taught by a Kansas City First Aid instructor.
You print off a certificate and bring it to your skills validation
session. Your certification card is issued by our instructor
at your skills validation session.
I have lost my course card (Heartsaver, BLS,
etc). How can I get it replaced?
- Contact the instructor or the coordinator of
the Community Training Site (e.g., K. C. First Aid) where you took the class.
Replacement of lost cards is the responsibility of the Community
Training Site. There is a $10 fee for the issuance of a
replacement card. To request a replacement course
completion card online, visit our
Student Access webpage.
Does the American Heart Association offer first
aid training?
- Yes, the Heartsaver First Aid program.
The Heartsaver First Aid course combines adult CPR and the
use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) with basic
first aid procedures. Students in this course will learn how
to perform adult CPR, relieve airway obstruction by a
foreign object, use a barrier device during rescue
breathing, use an AED, and provide first aid for acute
injuries and sudden illnesses.
- Starting in June 2006 the American Heart Association
offers a Pediatric First Aid course too!
Is there an age requirement to
take a CPR class?
- No, there are no age
requirements. However, younger children may not understand the
steps to CPR or be able to do chest compressions.
We recommend eight years of age as a minimum.

it?
